For a long time I was looking for a rich volunteer experience. I found it the end of a long, dusty road, on a ranch in rural San Diego County where the air is clean, nature abounds and most importantly, the opportunity is there for commitment to serving God and having solid relationships with caring people who are and have successfully been mentoring youth, building character and teaching skills for life. Most importantly, everything that happens here is solidly anchored in Christian values; which is the core of the existence of Buckheart Ranch Ministries.
Now mix those Christian values with sincere LOVE that Chuck and his wife Julie and their five children, along with Ms Helen and Fred give to the boys and you really have something special. You see this early on and want to be part of the extended circle. I also have met some of the graduates of Buckheart Ranch. They are definite proof that the Buckheart experienced has enhanved their lives. They are fine gentlemen that anyone would be extremely proud to say, "That's my son." I am sure God feels the same way about them.
Have you ever volunteered and then shown up only to find too many volunteers, of which most had nothing to do? Those one-time volunteer opportunities have been a frustration point for me. NOT so at Buckheart. I think the key is to commit to a place. Chuck echoed that furing our early discussions. Commitment and consistency create trusting relationships. It's the relationships that make this volunteer opportunity so worthwhile for everyone.
